Linked to our Skills Builder curriculum, Year 6 recently put their enterprise skills to the test by organising and running their very own Enterprise Day Summer Fayre.

Working in teams, the children used their teamwork skills to plan and create stalls that would appeal to pupils across the school. Throughout the planning process, they demonstrated many of the essential Skills Builder skills, including listening to each other's ideas, speaking confidently to share suggestions, staying positive when challenges arose, and aiming high to make their stalls as exciting and successful as possible.

The children also showcased excellent problem-solving skills as they worked out how their games would run, what equipment they would need and how to make their stalls enjoyable for everyone. Their creativity shone through in the wide variety of activities on offer, and they used their leadership skills to organise roles and responsibilities within their teams.

After careful planning, the children decided upon an exciting range of stalls:

  • Deadly Dice
  • Lucky Dip
  • Darts Challenge
  • Guess the Teacher from a Baby Photo
  • Nerf Wars
  • 50p Mix-Ups
  • Penalty Shoot-Out
  • Guess the Number of Sweets in the Football Cup
  • Guess the Name of the Teddy
  • Spin the Wheel

Each class was allocated a time slot to visit the fayre, and it was wonderful to see pupils from across the school enjoying the activities. Parents and carers were incredibly generous with the money they sent in, allowing children to take part in a range of games and challenges throughout the day.

The event was a huge success, with laughter, excitement and friendly competition filling the school. One particular challenge proved especially difficult: nobody managed to guess the correct name of the teddy!

Not wanting the prizes to go to waste, Chayse, William and Jake, who were responsible for running the stall, demonstrated fantastic adaptability and entrepreneurial thinking by deciding to raffle the teddies instead. Once again, parents and carers showed incredible generosity by sending in money for raffle tickets.

During Friday's Celebration Assembly, the boys drew the raffle and announced the lucky winners. Matthew from Year 2 won Pebbles, while Leilan from Year 1 became the proud owner of Quince.

Enterprise Day was a fantastic opportunity for Year 6 to put all eight Skills Builder skills into practice. Through listening, speaking, problem solving, creativity, staying positive, aiming high, leadership and teamwork, the children gained valuable real-world experience while creating an enjoyable event for the entire school community.

Most importantly, their hard work paid off. Together, the Year 6 children raised a whopping £359.12. The money will be used to help fund end-of-year celebrations and memorable leavers' activities, including the Year 6 Leavers' Party.

A huge thank you to all of our parents, carers, staff and pupils for supporting the event. Your generosity helped make Enterprise Day a tremendous success and provided Year 6 with a fantastic opportunity to develop skills that will support them long after they leave Oxclose. Well done, Year 6!
