Curriculum Overview
Curriculum Intent
At Oxclose Primary Academy we have created a curriculum which meets the needs of our pupils whilst ensuring they are prepared for the next stages within their learning journey.
As a school we follow the National Curriculum for all subjects.
We provide a curriculum that enables pupils to deepen knowledge and develop skills, which are transferable both now and in the future. In order to overcome barriers to learning, we ensure our curriculum:
- is inclusive for all
- develops language and vocabulary
- provides social and emotional support
- offers opportunities for a wide range of experiences
- fosters a love of reading while developing essential skills
Curriculum Implementation
To ensure all pupils have access to the curriculum they are entitled to within our school, for all subjects we expect:
Within Classrooms
- Access to Quality First Teaching at all times
- Lessons which are engaging and offer appropriate challenge for all pupils
- A reading rich environment with engaging texts for all
- Environments which are accessible and appropriate for the age, and stage for all pupils
- High expectations of all pupils, both for work and behaviour
- Nurture a love of knowledge and natural curiosity by asking questions
- Memory walls which allows pupils to revisit sticky knowledge
- Development and understanding of vocabulary and language within all lessons
Curriculum
- Planning, which is purposeful and bespoke to the pupils within our school
- Visits and/or visitors each term to promote first hand experiences and improve knowledge of the local area
- Opportunities to make knowledge and skills link across different curriculum areas
- Revisiting knowledge and prior learning
- Make the most of community/local links to enhance subject areas
- Identify sticky knowledge we want pupils to retain
For each National Curriculum subject there is a clear understanding of how it will be implemented across the school. Subject implementation statements identify how individual subjects will be implemented, specifying key elements which are dependent on the specific subject.
Curriculum Impact
The impact of our curriculum will not only be measured through outcomes but how effectively it enables our pupils to develop into well rounded individuals, who are well equipped for the challenges of life, now and in the future.
We want to nurture pupils who are confident and competent to talk about a range of subject areas.
In order to evaluate the effectiveness of our curriculum we will use:
- Lesson visits
- Pupils’ work
- Pupil and staff discussions
- Assessments to have an increased understanding of pupils’ knowledge and skills
